2017 day10 (September 11 - Bolzano to Trento)

I really didn't know much about northern Italy apart from enjoying lake Como in 2013 so this trip has been a real surprise - and a very pleasant one at that.

This is a spectacular part of the world - it is so easy to say stunning scenery and quaint villages but that doesn't really do it justice although it has both.

The riding so far has been quite easy really, so much so that we CHOSE the hilly alternative for today's ride and it was still pretty easy but glad we did as the scenery was apparently significantly better than the flatter option by the river all the way.

Again, bikeways are fabulous and the is a whole network of them. We passed through massive areas of both grapes and apples and the grapes we sampled were just beautiful.

Again one of those travelling gems occurred when we stopped at a fairly non-description little local hotel called hotel Jacky  (named after Jack Daniel's we found out) run by a delightful girl and her father where we had the BEST pasta on the trip so far - memorable.

After 74km we finally arrived in Trento which is pretty big and has a beautiful square with the traditional Italian massive "Duomo" as part of it. Again found a back street pizzeria where we ended up with beautiful braised beef cheek and asparagus - we are really going to miss Italian Cooking!

This whole area of Nth Italy is very interesting in that it is quite bi-lingual - it used to be part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until WW1  and then became part of Italy so now about 70% of the population speak Italian but the rest still speak German and street signs are often in both languages.
