Well it had to happen. Days of perfection in cycling sort of ended when I opened the window of the hotel room at 6 this morning to the sight of torrential rain, Thunder and lightning.
Beautiful breakfast though in the Hotel Grande and after checking out and collecting the bikes we set out through the wet streets of Trento with the rain pelting down. Apart from being a bit worried by the lightNing and thunder it was a fairly uneventful mornings ride. We had to go 50k to reach the ferry at the northern end of Lake Garda so we decided to press on as quickly as possible and get there. It wasn't until about 11 that we all started to feel a bit cold as the water was starting to penetrate our wet weather gear.
We reached the lake just as the sky was beginning to clear and by the time we had lunch (the usual pasta and red) the summer was shining.
However, when we went to book the boat, the sign went up to say that all boats were cancelled due to the Weather!
Phone calls to Girolibero soon had them arranging bus transport for the 30 or so cyclists stranded in the sunshine and lovely Weather! The buses and bike trailers turned up at about 4.30 so instead of our much anticipated boat trip down Lake Garda we had a squeeze bus trip down the other way to Desenzano. Disappointing but we still had a great day and a hot shower and hair drier for the shoes and socks son made everything good again.
Last cycle day to Verona tomorrow so hopefully the sun stays shining!
